Pagosa Country is Bear Country and a Lot More
There has been a marked increase in Bear sitings around Pagosa Country this summer, which I think is quite fun, except for the fact that this bear managed to tear down all my
bird feeders even though I had placed them extra high. He seems to be a very clever bear. In the upper Piedra Road area where I live, wildlife sitings are frequent. We get to enjoy fox. I saw one the other day in my yard dining on what must have been a neighbors chicken. A friend of his ? passes by, perhaps discerning that his friend was not in a sharing mood. Deer are common. Bambi (small and still spotted) and its mother were in my yard yesterday. They also like to visit my vegetable garden. As a result, I had to fence it off this year. In the past my garden has been very popular with deer, cows that got loose from neighboring ranches, and my neighbor’s goats-bless them all. In the winter, we usually see a Bobcat spying on my bird feeders and their visitors. And I always enjoy the coyotes serenading us at night from some distant hill.
