Blues-rockers at the Concert Hall
Blues-rockers Levi Platero Band closes the Concert Hall season May 18
Local blues guitarists Kirk James and Larry Carver team up to open the show
DURANGO, Colo. – The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College closes its 2016-2017 season on a powerful note, Thursday, May 18, 2017, with hard-driving, blues-rock from the Levi Platero Band. Local blues guitarists Kirk James and Larry Carver kick off the show at 7:30 p.m. The dance floor will be open.
The Levi Platero Band is a family power trio from Tohajilee, N.M., within the Navajo Nation. Lead Levi Platero was only 12 years old when the band took the stage during a concert at “The Gathering of Nations,” and he met with an overwhelming response. He slid across the stage with power chords and screaming blues notes. His musical journey has continued from there, propelling him onto the national stage, including a performance at the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Ball.
Levi Platero’s quiet nature is unleashed in a style that mixes Texas Blues and vintage rock, reminiscent of contemporary guitar heroes. His live shows captivate audiences with flurries of guitar acrobatics and soulful expressiveness. Winner of the 2016 New Mexico Music Award for Best Blues, the Levi Platero Band’s current 2017 award nominations include a reprise of the New Mexico Music Award plus the Indigenous Music Award. Currently Levi Platero and his band are on tour to promote a new EP and a second, soon-to-be-released full length album.
As noted by the media, “If Santana or the Los Lonely Boys had little brothers it would be the Plateros.”

Special guests Kirk James and Larry Carver are independently known on the regional music circuit for performing with bands of their own. The two veteran guitarists are making a rare appearance together at the Concert Hall and have crafted a special set for the blues show.
Kirk James is recognized for his solid Texas Blues tradition, playing ragtime, Texas shuffles and funky grooves. Larry Carver is a longtime member of the band Void Where Prohibited and popular performing “high altitude blues” with Nina Sasaki in Black Velvet.
