There has been lots of misinformation concerning the Little Sand Fire. People are asking if businesses in the area of the fire are open. Crazy Horse Outfitters, Sportsman’s Supply and Bugle em up Outfitters have and will continue to do horseback rides.

The main activity from the fire is well north of of those businesses and is not and will not effect them. They have not and will not be threatened by the fire. Most of the trails including Piedra falls, Williams creek trailhead, Cimarrona trailhead, Middle Fork Trail as well as Williams reservoir, most of Williams creek, the Middle Fork of the Piedra, the forest service campgrounds (except Williams Creek campground which is closed for other reasons) and about everything to the east of Piedra road is open and is expected to stay open. Fires are still permitted in fire pits at developed campgrounds.
The photo is at the top of Toner mountain taken on June 15, 2012. As you can see the majority of the smoke is north of us and that the fire is slowly moving into the wilderness. Sportsman’s Campground are located in valley on left center of picture. Main activity from fire has moved north and will continue to do so. It’s getting into the beetle killed spruce trees so they do expect more smoke to our north but little smoke at the campground.

Come on out and enjoy the mountains.
