“Christmas Jubilee” for the Holidays
DURANGO, Colo. – The Bar D Wranglers’ popular “Christmas Jubilee” returns for the holidays, as Durango’s much-beloved cowboy crooners come off the Bar D Ranch and take the stage at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, 7:30 p.m. Limited tickets remain.
With the Christmas Jubilee, the Bar D Wranglers weave together traditional holiday and Western music, cowboy poetry, tall tales and humor. It is a warm-hearted, fun-filled, all-ages show that inspires the entire family to embrace the true meaning of the holidays.
The Wranglers home base, the Bar D Chuckwagon, was founded in 1969 by Cy Scarborough. Since that time, the group has entertained more than 2.5 million guests at the Bar D Chuckwagon, plus performed on countless other stages and venues across the United States.
Guitarist Gary Cook joined the Wranglers in 1989. Originally from Fort Collins, he began his musical career at age 4, singing and playing a variety of instruments, and with his siblings performing on a Denver-based radio station’s “Rocky Mountain Jamboree.” Over the years he has competed in guitar and mandolin contests throughout the central and western United States, winning the National Flatpick Guitar Championship twice.
Fiddler Matt Palmer joined the Bar D Wranglers in 2000, moving to Durango from Sandpoint, Idaho. From a musical family, he learned to play as his family toured around the United States performing for western music festivals. His baritone also adds vocal harmony to the Wranglers’ songs.
Richard Espinoza is the most recent to join the Bar D Wranglers, added to the group in 2011. He is best known for his big western singing voice, often being compared to one of the greatest in western music history – Marty Robbins.
Joel Racheff lays down the foundation of the Wranglers’ music on upright bass, as well as creating the core of comic relief for the group and singing lead vocals. Racheff also performs solo in various venues throughout Durango.
As veteran country star Charlie Daniels noted about the Bar D Wranglers, “It’s all here, it’s all authentic and when it’s mixed in with the outstanding musicianship, tight harmony and the hilarious hijinks of the Bar D Wranglers, it makes for a fun night you won’t soon forget.”
