Dance the Holiday Desserts Off
Dance the holiday desserts off with The Motet, Friday!
Founded in 1998 by Dave Watts, the Denver-based band is said to seamlessly fuse elements of Afro-beat, electronica, funk and jazz for an infectious and improvisational sound that defies categorization. Descriptions of The Motet have included: funk-flippin’, booty-dippin’, dance party delivery squad.
Key to The Motet’s popularity is that the band members do not mimic bands of the past, but rather create new, authentic sounds in a language based on foundations established by those earlier bands.
The Motet developed a hometown base of enthusiastic fans, but in recent years the group has taken its dance parties on the road. Shows now sell out at venues such as Colorado’s Red Rocks, Tipitina’s in New Orleans and the Brooklyn Bowl. The Motet has performed at Electric Forest, Summer Camp, All Good Music and more.
Founder Watts is a master on the drums, supported by current band members Joey Porter (keyboards), Garrett Sayers (bass), Ryan Jalbert (guitar), Gabriel Mervine (trumpet), Lyle Divinsky (vocals) and Drew Sayers (saxophone). Drew Sayers also doubles as DJ Naysayers, who will kick off the evening’s dance party with a selection of roots and dub reggae.
