A Public Meeting will be held
at Sportsman’s Campground Recreation Hall.
North on Piedra Road (approx. 13 miles)
*****************************************
A Kaman K-1200 K-MAX fills a helibucket from a pond near the northern perimeter of the Little Sand Fire. This relatively small Type 1 helicopter is capable of carrying over 2 1/2 tons under optimum conditions.
Today, firefighters will concentrate on the northeastern corner and eastern flank of the fire perimeter. Crews and air resources will recon and monitor other areas.
Firefighters will continue to provide structure protection as a precaution on the northeastern and eastern perimeters. This protection will increase if weather conditions warrant.
Firefighter and Public safety is always the number one priority and firefighters will remain “heads-up” for hazards such as snags and weather changes. There is increased traffic on North Piedra Road and travelers should be cautious traveling in this area.
Archuleta County is now in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. For more information visit their site at www.ACEMERGENCY.org under the Wildland Fire tab, or call Fire Information at (970) 444-2201.
