Meet Candidates for CU Regent September 5

Meet Candidates for CU Regent Jessica Garrow and Stephen Ludwig, September 5 in Pagosa Springs

Jessica Garrow and Stephen Ludwig are running for CU Regent. They will be in Pagosa Springs on September 5 and meeting with constituents at the Backroom Wine Bar from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Leanne Goebel is hosting this event.

The CU Board of Regents is the board of directors for the University of Colorado system. They make decisions related to the budget, tenure, tuition, construction of new facilities and degree programs. There are nine Regents—two are elected statewide and then there is one from each of Colorado’s seven congressional districts. Regents serve a six-year term and can serve a maximum of two terms. Regents are elected by the voters of Colorado and in November 2012, there will be four Regent positions up for election: CD3, CD5, CD7 (a special election) and one statewide. The Board of Regents are unpaid.

The University of Colorado system is Colorado’s fourth largest employer, with a budget of $2.8 billion. The success of CU directly impacts the economy of our state.

Jessica Garrow is running for the CD3 Regent slot, is 30 years old and lives in Carbondale with her husband Ted Parenti. She is a third generation Coloradoan who graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Colorado-Boulder with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy in 2004. She received her Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning in 2006 from The Ohio State University.

“As a candidate for CU Regent, I am committed to providing access to quality public higher education for all Coloradans. I believe that higher education truly changes lives and communities. Higher education increases job opportunities for individuals, encourages involvement in our communities and creates a skilled workforce that improves Colorado’s ability to compete in the global marketplace. I am running to fight for access to higher education for all Coloradans, increase CU’s present on the Western Slope and maintain and improve the quality of CU education,” Garrow says.

Ludwig is running for re-election to the at-large statewide Regent position he currently holds. He currently serves as chair of the strategic planning committee and as the regents’ representative to the Auraria Higher Education Center board. Ludwig is the corporate marketing and communications manager for CH2M HILL and in addition runs his own public relations agency.
