Pagosa Springs News & Vacation Information

Pagosa Destination Imagination Teams Go Global

Our Pagosa Springs 8th grade team, the BackTrackers, and our High School team, the Imaginators, both qualified for Destination ImagiNation Global Finals! After both teams won 1st Place in their divisions at Regional Tournament in Durango, they traveled to the State competition on April 17th. At State, the 8th grade team placed 3rd place in the middle level division and the high school team placed 2nd place in the secondary division, earning them the privilege of representing Colorado at the International Tournament on May 26 – 29th.

Pagosa Springs had 2 teams qualify for Global Finals of Destination Imagination

They will complete against teams from 30 different countries and all over the United States. More than 16,000 people will attend this international event and will get major exposure for our little town of Pagosa Springs.

This experience will make a huge difference in our kids lives and stay with them forever, so getting them to the tournament is vital!

To do so, WE NEED YOUR HELP! It costs approximately $10,000 to send one team to global finals. We need to raise this money in the next 2-3 weeks! In years past, the DI project received generous financial support primarily from the Archuleta County School District. Unfortunately, due to severe and unexpected budget cuts to all schools in Colorado, our district is not able to fund registration for or travel to the Global Finals. Destination ImagiNation students proactively raised about $4,000 this year to defray their expenses after the State Tournament.

We plan on doing this through:

1. Ten for Tennessee - If 1000 people donate just $10, we have enough to go! Please call 731-6325 to make a donation. We can come pick up the donation!

2. Fundraising Events – Little Cesaers Pizza Kit Sale, Hot Air Balloon Rides, City Market Bake Sale, etc…

3. Company Sponsorships/Individual Donations

Destination ImagiNation is an exciting interdisciplinary project which increases academic, artistic, theatrical, and research skills. The annual competition is standards-based and involves students from all 50 states and dozens of foreign countries. The project employs critical thinking, innovative problem-solving, collaboration, and information technology like no other school pursuit.

Having experienced remarkable success in recent years, Pagosa students organized five DI teams for 2010. Each team consists of seven students and two adult managers. Thirty-five (35) high-achieving Pagosa students participated. Remarkably, all five teams qualified for the Colorado State DI Tournament.

Pagosa’s two most experienced DI teams achieved outstanding success at the State Tournament and qualified to compete at the Global Finals the last week of May at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
