Professor Emeritus at Fort Lewis College shares Geology

SAVE THE DATE for SJMA’s next Members’ Series presentation

… and bring a friend!

** Friday, September 17, 5:30-7:00 pm at the PLC **

Rob Blair, Ph.D. geology, Colorado School of Mines, and Professor Emeritus at Fort Lewis College, has graciously agreed to share his knowledge about the region’s geology at an evening presentation for SJMA Members and their guests. A renowned geologist, teacher and author, Dr. Blair will give us an overview of how and when our rugged San Juan Mountains were formed; what created the Animas Valley; why the landscape is so rugged and picturesque; and much more. Ed Heath, whom some of you may have met at our volunteer picnic, is an M.I.T. graduate in geology who will introduce Dr. Blair and participate in the evening presentation.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to learn more about the origins of the majestic landscape we call home! We’re planning to provide light appetizers and finger foods to tide folks over – perhaps before they enjoy dinner out on a Friday evening.

Note of interest: Rob Blair’s book, The Western San Juan Mountains: Their Geology, Ecology, and Human History, is one of the most complete works published on the natural history of Southwest Colorado’s mountain system. This generously illustrated book covers the physical environment, the biological communities, the human history, and points of interest represented on milepost signs along the scenic 235-mile San Juan Skyway. The Skyway winds its way up, over, and through canyons, mesas, plateaus, mountains, plains, and valleys, as it passes through Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride, Dolores, and Cortez. Copies are available at the SJMA Bookstore; Dr. Blair will be able to sign them at the presentation.
