Ron Chacey Talks Gardening
FREE GARDENING TALK: RON CHACEY DISCUSSES MULCH
On Tuesday, July 11th at 4:30 p.m., the Pagosa Springs Community Gardeners present the fourth free gardening talk in their summer-long series. Ron Chacey, a renowned local organic gardener and tree farmer, will present “The All-Important Gardening Topic: Mulch” at the River Pointe Coffee House, 445 San Juan on the San Juan Riverwalk in downtown Pagosa.
Chacey’s father was an organic gardener before WWII; Ron began gardening organically with his father over seventy years ago. Although the concept of what organic gardening is has changed over the years, Ron has always been at the forefront of the movement. A Pagosa-area gardener for over twenty years, Chacey readily admits he has experienced many failures in what most consider an extremely difficult to garden environment. But by utilizing his vast knowledge and experimentation, Chacey has proven that almost every vegetable, if provided appropriate soil, management, and microclimate, can easily be grown in the Pagosa area.
An original founder of the Pagosa Springs Community Garden located at 5th Street on the San Juan River, Ron is known as the go-to expert gardener in the area.
One of many accolades received include the 2011 Colorado State Tree Farmer award presented by the Colorado State Forest Service to Ron and his wife, Windsor Chacey.
The fifth talk in the Pagosa Springs Community Gardeners summer-long series will feature the new Archuleta County Weed and Pest Supervisor, Ethan Proud. Ethan will present ‘Weeds: How Prevent Them. Not Just a Chemical Talk.” on Tuesday, July 18th, 4:30 p.m. at the River Pointe Coffee House.
All talks are free and open to the public. Speakers will begin promptly at 4:45 p.m. For the full summer-long schedule, visit facebook.com/PagosaSpringsCommunityGarden or email [email protected]mail.com.
