Arborglpyhs:  A Walk through Aspen Groves with Peggy Bergon and

A Walk in the Wetlands with Rick and Lynne Stinchfield

The Pagosa Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest provides free, entertaining, interpretive and informational programs for the public at various times and locations during the summer.  For many years, Peggy Bergon has collected photographs of arborglyphs:  carvings on Aspen done by Hispanic sheepherders dating from the late 1800’s to the early 1950’s.  On this three mile walk you will see many of their writings and artwork while learning about the early sheep industry.  Due to the nature of the walk,  it is limited to 12 participants.  We will meet at the Buckles Lake Trailhead (south on 84 for about 19 miles and then 7 miles up Buckles Lake Road) on Wednesday June 27th at 9:00am and walk will go to approximately 11:00am.  For more information and to reserve a spot, call Pagosa Ranger District at (970) 264-2268. For more information about Peggy and Arborglyphs, go to www.arborglyphs.com.  Wear walking shoes/boots, dress appropriately for the weather, and bring drinking water.

The following day is a great Kids Walk here in town.  On Thursday, June 28th from 10:30am-11:30am Rick and Lynne Stinchfield will host A Walk in the Wetlands.  Learn all about the plants and animals that live here.  There will be activities for kids of all ages!  Bring your own lunch and drinking water or kids can stop in at the Pagosa Springs Nurturing Center (802 Rosita & N. 8th) for a free picnic lunch to take on the walk.  Please wear walking shoes/boots, a hat, and bring sunscreen.  Meet at the Town Hall parking lot on Hot Springs Blvd.
