Baby Yuna, Seong Joo and Ian along with mom, Ruth Vance, went for a hike on Ice Cave Ridge
, the southern border of the Sand Creek Fire.
Ian hiked this trail in the past and wanted to see the results of the fire.
They couldn’t find evidence
of a fire. I had to show them the photo below to prove there had been a fire there at all.
.
Yuna says you have to get down and study nature close up.
Later, they drove north to the Weminuche Valley to see tree damage due to fire
.
Here is a large patch of burned trees above the Poma Ranch.
At about the same time Tom Moser went up the Mosca Road to find these images at the far north end of the fire. The fire torched or burned entire trees here. This is in the area where Willie Swanda noted, in a past article, that the forest floor was so cluttered the wildlife couldn’t walk. Soon the floor will be bursting with new growth and it will be a perfect wildlife habitat. Realize that these trees dropped billions of seeds that will one day grow into a new forest.
This photo say it all! Yes, there was fire, but nature has a way of healing itself and life continues.
