The 7th Annual CRUISE-a-THONG Weekend will be held in Town Park on July 28th and 29th, 2012. The event features a triathlon designed for the not-quite-hardcore athlete in all of us! The course consists of three legs, the first being a cruiser bike ride or other self-propelled method of transportation through downtown Pagosa Springs. Next, a thong (that is to say flip-flop) walk along the almost world famous Pagosa Springs Riverwalk. And lastly, a tube or other flotation device float down the San Juan River.
Only the highest of society events require this much mirror time.
This year’s event is going to be the best weekend you had all summer with a great after party with live music, food and beverages. The weekend begins with the Bloody Mary Showdown and later in the afternoon awards for outstanding outfits, methods of “cruising” and most creative flotation device. And don’t miss out on Sunday’s Hair of the Dog Disc Golf Tournament.
”Tis the day of Cruise-A-Thong
All the people are festooned
In clothes of many colors
Headbands and balloons.
In the park we have gathered
What a sight to behold
I can’t believe you’re wearing that
Is it really that cold?
We are here in celebration
Of average and of plain
We are looking for the middleman
Be it Joe or Jane.
Who has been in training?
Raise your hands, don’t be shy
The person you have to watch out for
Is that guy!
Watch your beverages and your actions
Your behavior is expected
Being drunk, disorderly or just plain s@%TTy
Will get you immediately ejected.
Now find yourself a buddy
Whether stranger or old friend
A make sure they stay focused
From beginning to end.
The course is wrought with peril
Danger on all sides
Now climb aboard your cruiser
And ride baby ride.”
