Sunday Special, Scenes from the Gecko Marathon

The Gecko Trail marathon was held Saturday in the Turkey Springs – Devil’s Mountain area. The 50 K and 50 mile runners had a beautiful environment and day.

When Morgan says “Trail Race” he means it. A lot of the run is on single track while some distances are double track and forest access roads.

Here single track turns onto a smooth road, a rest for ankles!

One runner came by saying that this is the most beautiful trail race in the world. It is nice up there!

The Pagosa Trail Riders ATV Club manages a major aid station at the point where the 50K and 50 Mile racers turn onto different trails.

Runners take a few moments to sample the goodies.

“Is this the finish line, really?

Every finisher is immediately presented with a ceramic trophy made by local teacher and artist, Tessie Garcia.

Trophy table is loaded with cermaic 1st, 2nd and third place medals and first prize trophys made by Runner and artist, Scott Jlind.

Scott made steel Devil’s faces. The eyes are railroad spikes and there is a small runner trying to make it up hill on the Devil’s nose. Very creative Scott!
