Get Involved: PATC’s Trail Fundamentals Workshop
The Pagosa Area Trails Council
Pagosa Springs, CO – We live in a community that is surrounded by 1.8-million acres of national forest, our wild land backyard. And, most of us, moved here or have stayed here because we enjoy and appreciate the outdoors and the lifestyle it affords us.
In 1997 a gentleman by the name of John Applegate wanted to be a greater influence on the trails in our community and formed a small group of like-minded individuals. The Pagosa Area Trails Council (PATC) serves with the purpose of volunteering time to trail maintenance needs and projects on any of the 102-trails or 687-miles of trails to be found in the Pagosa Ranger District.
Trail work is for nearly everyone. Most projects have an array of needs, from lopping to digging to building to sawing. There is a job for every volunteer – we promise.

Little snow is on the ground making volunteers anxious to get outside and work in the dirt.
On Thursday, February 1, join Tyler Albers, from Trails and Wilderness on the Pagosa Ranger District, as he leads a discussion on the functioning components of trails. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the why and how of volunteer trail work.
The workshop will be held at the District Ranger Office from 1000 to 1300. Planned topics include: Forest Service trail management, evolution of trails, modern trail design and trail features.
Please bring a brown bag lunch and we can continue to discuss topics through the lunch hour.
Space is limited – send an email to [email protected] to confirm your space. Only reserve a space if you are going to attend.
PATC functions as one of the coordinating organizations to assist with the care and maintenance of a few of the approximately 687 miles of trails that need maintenance in the Pagosa Ranger District.
