New Worksite Wellness Program Available to Local Businesses
San Juan Basin Health Department is offering a worksite wellness program in La Plata and Archuleta Counties. The goal of the program is to reduce obesity and other cardiovascular disease risk factors among working adults. The program will provide employees baseline health assessments, a wellness survey, and educational resources and support in adopting healthier lifestyle behaviors. While this program is open to all businesses and organizations, the focus is on recruiting those that aren’t able to offer health insurance to their employees. Participating employers will pay a flat fee of $25 per employee.
A grant of $148,768 from the Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease and Pulmonary Disease Grants Program of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will help cover initial costs. Additionally, SJBHD is partnering with Healthy Lifestyles La Plata, Cooking Matters and the La Plata County Extension Office to offer a broad array of resources and referrals for worksite wellness participants.
